Of the two, I would have to say fly on the wall. I can talk for sure and enjoy doing so, but documenting well, can only be done to the best of my ability when I'm watching and listening :-)
Yes to all of the above. Prior to weddings I had a career in National journalism, so print publications are numerous. These days everything is digital with regular features appearing in wedding industry blogs such as English Wedding, Rock my Wedding etc. I'm also a member of several professional world organisations such as Fearless Photographers, WPJA and have won numerous awards for my work.
Having worked for the major Fleet St titles, along with a stint as a foreign correspondent, documentary photography is my natural environment. I have a hands off approach, wanting to see a scene build whilst intuitively capturing this, along with its culmination. For me, genuine moments will always carry more weight than any posed or directed image. Beautiful imagery IMO, isn't simply technique, golden hour and chocolate box imagery. Sure, a proficient photographer and great, natural light helps, but finding and capturing unique connection between people is the real test of great photography. I try to avoid set list shots. You wont find me using strobes and umbrellas to get 'that shot' of a couple standing under umbrellas while the rain pours down around them. It's a tired cliche. We can find so much more. Real imagery thats all about you, your love, your connection and the people you care about!
Life... Every book that I've read, person that I have loved, music that I've listened to. Life experience is everything, and thats not saying anything about age, more a case of where I have been, what I have seen, where I live, my family, my dogs - all add to my uniqueness, my eyes to the world and how I go about capturing raw, emotive & real imagery.
Ensure that we have a pre wedding check in with each other. We can run through your timeline, discuss any plan B's and make sure we all know what we hope to do and capture. Nothing too major, just an outline as life is more interesting when it goes off script! I roll with what ever comes my way and no matter the situation, i always deliver memorable, emotive, beautiful imagery.
That the couples I work with live and experience their day to the full! I would hate them to feel that precious time with family & friends was missed, due to a photographer consuming too much of their time, taking them away from the gathered family & friends. I've been there as a second shooter before and was as confused as their guests as to where they had gone and for what? Great imagery will be captured effortlessly. No matter how much or how little time you give for couples portraits - I'll confidently capture beautiful images. Striking the perfect balance between creating a time capsule of memories for you to look back upon for years to come while you mingle and celebrate to the max!
Amazing people always top of my bucket list! Diversity within cultural backgrounds, orientation & creativity! x
Nothing from a set list, BUT everything as I see it. Maybe a little blunt but 'moments' are real and only fleetingly occur. Thats where my experience to anticipate and judge a scene comes in. Some I win, some I lose - but when they come good, they're great! Thankfully I have a high success rate through great intuition.
Tricky one this one.....Should I say that I've been married 3 times, so I know a fair bit about wedding planning? or should I say ' that I've been instrumental in getting Johnny Depp arrested, getting kissed by Liam Gallagher or that I've been pulled over by protection officers with guns pulled?'... It maybe best to know that I'm very attentive, empathetic and creative. I'm a father of 3, neurodiverse, Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder & love lifting stuff at the gym!
Gotta be 'the next one!' hasn't it? It what keeps me fresh, looking to always improve my craft and to capture images through new experience. No matter the size, location and people -each wedding has the opportunity to present unique opportunities. People, customs, traditions, self expression along with the weather, will always keep me primed, looking for imagery that will work either as stand alone or a series of pictures that bring you back to the feeling day

Two simple reasons - I've got a number of strings to my bow being a photographer, videographer & drone pilot! The other is my style. What I see and capture within the moments that resonate with me. Hopefully my eye and how I chose to edit these images will strike you and want you to get in touch!
