Both it depends on what is needed as there are moments where I chat to guests as I find this helps them become more comfortable with me and then there are moments where I need to be a fly on the wall.
I adore weddings. I love being able to capture images and video that when viewed, bring back a flood of memories from such a special day. It is really important for me to work closely with all my couples so that the end product is something they love and treasure for years to come. On the day I am more then just a photographer or videographer, I am there to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera, run and grab those flowers when needed, fix that veil back in your hair and even help get those button holes on. I pride myself on my communication skills and in a friendly manner able to help guide you and your guests to get those all important group portraits, as well as being aware of my surroundings to document all those little moments happening throughout the day so your gallery is still full of those documentary styled moments. I have shot over 100 weddings and with this comes experience to deal with anything that is thrown at me on the day, including horrific weather. In the UK rain is pretty common and that does not hold back from still being able to get amazing couple and group portraits. Don't worry if your not a natural in front of the camera most of us are not. I have lots of tricks up my sleeve to make you feel as comfortable as possible with me and so it feels more like you are having a laugh and joke with a friend rather then your photographer/videographer.
Enjoy it, don’t stress about your day being captured that is what I am here for, making sure all those key moments are within your gallery to recap on. I also pride myself on making my couples and guests feeling totally at ease with me, so when it comes to portraits it’s fun and not daunting.
Communication- you can be the best photographer in the world but if you can’t communicate then it’s hard to get people to relax and feel comfortable around you, which means moments can be missed.
For me there are three things I look out for when shooting a wedding. Those all important key moments like walking down the aisle, first kiss, vows etc. Those moments the couples wouldn’t have seen- things guests get up to that bring joy to a gallery for a couple. The ones that will bring back silly memories- a groomsmen sneaking a drink of his beer in the middle of group portraits, the kid hiding under the top table in the middle of speeches, the muddy feet from the bride given up on her shoes (all real examples). All three combined tell the story of your day from all angles.
