I'm extremely chatty, probably a little too much! I'm the one who will start talking the moment we meet and probably still be talking when your grandkids are looking through your wedding album. I literally do not shut up. I will hype you up like a caffeinated sports commentator, ask you 47 different questions about how you met, accidentally start a side conversation about your dog’s name, and somehow end up in a deep philosophical debate with your guests during cocktail hour. But guess what? That’s just me. Because while I’m out here making you laugh, relax, and forget there’s even a camera in the room, I’m also catching every real, ridiculous, beautiful moment as it unfolds. If you're into big energy, weird tangents, and a photographer who feels more like an unhinged old friend with a camera - buckle up. We’re gonna have so much fun.
Hi, I’m the guy behind Atken Photography - equal parts third wheel, hype squad, and stealthy ninja with a camera. I've been shooting weddings since you had to pop a film into the camera (and I'm still only 27!) My job? To make you feel like absolute rockstars while documenting every weird, wonderful, tearjerking, possibly slightly tipsy moment of your day. I’m not into awkward poses or making you stare longingly into each other’s souls for 7 minutes straight (unless you’re into that, in which case… okay, weird flex, but I support it). I will absolutely cry behind my lens during your vows, cheer like a maniac when you nail a dip kiss, and possibly trip over a chair trying to capture Grandma tearing up the dance floor. I’m here for the chaos, the cuddles and the sweaty dance battles. If you’re down for a wild ride of real moments, weird jokes then let’s make memories you’ll laugh at for decades.
Oh, and the plot twist - I’m also a brand designer. Yes, why have one job when you can be equally amazing at two! So while I’m out here shouting “Yes” from behind the camera as you nail that accidental Vogue cover moment, my little design brain is obsessing over colour palettes, symmetry, and whether the background is giving a balance or betrayal. My love for design massively influences my photography style - I’m talking clean lines, dreamy composition and photos that feel like you. So if you’re into visuals that tell a story and look like they were curated by someone mildly possessed by fonts and negative space... hi, it me.
Okay, so here’s the secret to getting the most out of your wedding photos: be yourselves. I'll be capturing it all whilst awkwardly squatting in a bush, thats normal for me. Don’t worry about posing, don't worry about holding your bouquet like a sword on Game of Thrones. Tell me if you hate your left side or right side and please don’t disappear mid-reception for a “quick outfit change” that turns into a 45-minute nap, we've all done it! Basically, show up, be in love, and let me handle the rest. You bring the vibes, I’ll bring the camera its a match made in heaven.
You two and your friends and families. I want the emotionally charged weirdness. The disco-ball reflections in your champagne. The moment an auntie rips off her heels and yells “ABBA!” with wild excitement. I’m not chasing the perfect shot, I’m chasing the beautiful, glorious glitch that is two people loving each other loudly in front of all their favourite humans. That’s the gold.
I'd love to work at all the venues above again and also a few extra thrown in for good measure. Hackness Grange, The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel, Middleton Lodge, Thirsk Lodge Barns, Beverley Barn, Tithe Barn - Bolton Abbey, Wharfedale Grange, Slane Castle, Sewerby Hall, Matara, York Museum Gardens, York Minster, Pendrell Hall, Grand Lodge, Castle Howard, Stepney Hill Farm, Thicket Priory, The Normans, The Gerkin, Camden Town, The Manor Rooms, Manchester (literally anywhere), Tuscany, Ibiza, Zante, Paris. Just thrown a few cities in for good measure!
You'll be glad you asked. Hopefully all these moments are included in your plans - • The exact moment the flower girl gives up and lies face down in the aisle. • That one groomsman who suddenly forgets how arms work during formal photos. • Your partner seeing you for the first time and doing that Face (you know the one—equal parts awe, love, and panic). • A guest absolutely losing it to a classic tune. The list is endless! • You two sneaking off for 0.5 seconds of alone time before being dragged back by a guest yelling for a selfie • The guest who claps off beat to every song and somehow becomes the dance floor MVP. • That awkward but funny moment where a guest goes in for a hug and the other goes for a handshake • The “I can't believe we just did that” look you give each other and also every emotional, chaotic, slightly inappropriate, totally perfect second in between!
Your wedding deserves more than just boring. I'll bring the camera, you bring you and let’s make some damn magic. So if you're down for weird jokes, constant hype, and a photographer who will absolutely become your wedding co pilot then buckle up!
Ah yes, the classic “What was your favourite wedding?” question - aka the one designed to get me disowned by 47 past couples and possibly blacklisted by an entire WhatsApp group chat. In all honestly? I can’t pick. Every wedding has a beautifully chaotic charm, some have alpacas in bow ties, some have tear - jerking personal vows and confetti cannons and some involve me sprinting (jogging) across a field because a golden hour sunset waits for no one. They’re all uniquely different and utterly iconic. So if your wedding has neon lights, a disco ball, or an open bar where someone’s nan does the worm then call me immediately.
I've worked at barns, beaches, breweries, back gardens, castles, cliffs, forests, fancy hotels, questionable sheds dressed as “rustic venues,” rooftops, rainy fields, and once - I swear to you - a place with live alpacas and a very bold peacock. Here is a few to note: Hackness Grange, The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel, Middleton Lodge, Thirsk Lodge Barns, Beverley Barn, Tithe Barn - Bolton Abbey, Wharfedale Grange, Slane Castle, Sewerby Hall, Matara, York Museum Gardens, York Minster, Pendrell Hall, Grand Lodge, Castle Howard, Stepney Hill Farm, Thicket Priory, The Normans. This list just goes on and I'm literally looking around at all the places I've starred on Google Maps!
Because I’m me, the guy you met all those weeks/months/years ago. I'm not just some rando with a camera - I’m your personal wedding navigator, extra bridesmaid/groomsman and unofficial wedding day genius. I'll have enough enthusiasm to power a small village. You’ll never feel awkward you'll just be yourselves, but slightly more iconic. Your nan will love me, actually all the guests will. You will love me. We'll be friends forever. I’m here to make beautiful art, possibly a collection of memes out of your dance floor moves and magic from the mayhem.
