A bit of both, really – it all depends on the moment. Most of the time I’m very much a fly on the wall, quietly capturing the day as it naturally unfolds. I want you to be able to look back on your photos and see real memories, not staged ones. That said, I’m always happy to chat and help when needed – whether it’s rounding up family for group shots or offering a bit of reassurance if nerves kick in. I’m calm, friendly and never intrusive, so you’ll always know I’m there if you need me, but I’ll never be in the way.
I’m Dave, the photographer behind Dave Waller Photography – based in West Yorkshire and lucky enough to spend my days capturing weddings across Yorkshire and beyond. I’ve photographed all sorts of weddings, from elegant castle celebrations to relaxed countryside gatherings, and I bring the same care and attention to each and every one. My approach is calm, unobtrusive, and always focused on real moments. I don’t believe in forced poses or anything that takes you away from simply enjoying your day. Instead, I work quietly in the background, capturing the laughter, the glances, and all the little in-between moments that make your wedding truly yours. Couples often tell me they felt completely at ease around me – like having an extra friend there with a camera – and that’s exactly what I aim for. This is your day, and I’m there to tell the story of it honestly, beautifully, and with all the heart it deserves.
I’m inspired by storytelling and the little details that often go unnoticed – the kind of moments that, years from now, will take you straight back to how it all felt. Artistically, I’m drawn to timeless imagery – rich in emotion, natural light, and honest expression. I’ve always loved the look of classic documentary photography – the way it captures real life with so much depth and subtlety. That influence runs through my wedding work too: I’m not about trends or filters, but about creating something that will still feel meaningful and beautiful decades down the line. Black and white photography also has a special place in my heart – it strips everything back to emotion and connection. That’s a big part of why I introduced The Black and White Photo Booth – a modern nod to timeless portraiture, giving guests a little piece of the day to take home.
The best thing couples can do is simply be present and enjoy every moment. The more relaxed and in-the-moment you are, the more naturally beautiful your photos will be. Trust me to handle the rest – I’ll be there to capture all the big moments, but also the quiet ones that often go unnoticed. If you’ve carved out a bit of time for some relaxed portraits, brilliant – but don’t worry, I keep it all very natural and quick so you’re not away from your guests for long. It’s also worth having a short list of any must-have group shots so we can whizz through them smoothly without taking up too much of your day. Above all, don’t stress about the camera – I’m there to tell the story of your day, exactly as it happens.
For me, the most important thing is capturing the true essence of the day – the atmosphere, the emotions, and the connection between people. Weddings are full of fleeting, meaningful moments, and I want my couples to be able to look back and feel it all – the nerves, the joy, the quiet little glances, and the big belly laughs. It’s not about ticking off a list of shots – it’s about telling a story that’s completely unique to you. I’m always looking for those honest, unguarded moments that often pass by unnoticed, because that’s where the real beauty lies. At the heart of it, I care deeply about giving couples photographs that feel personal, timeless, and full of heart.
I’m always looking for those real, unfiltered moments – the kind you don’t plan, but end up meaning the most. A quiet smile between the two of you when no one’s watching, a proud look from a parent, the joy on your guests’ faces as confetti fills the air – those are the moments that tell the true story of your day. Of course, I’ll capture all the key events, but it’s the in-between bits I really love – the fleeting glances, the hand squeezes, the laughter that catches you off guard. That’s where the real magic is. I want your gallery to feel like you’re reliving the day, not just looking at it.
The most important thing to know is that I genuinely care about the experience as much as the photos. I’m not just there to take pictures – I’m there to support you, keep things calm, and quietly document your day in the most natural, honest way possible. I want you to feel completely comfortable being yourselves around me, knowing that I’ll be capturing it all without ever making you feel posed or on show. If you're looking for someone who’ll blend in like a friend, stay calm under pressure, and give you a gallery full of real, meaningful moments – that’s me.
That’s a tough one – I’ve been lucky enough to photograph so many beautiful weddings, each with its own personality. But one that stands out was a wedding at Allerton Castle. The setting was grand and dramatic, but what really made it special was how down-to-earth and genuine the couple were. They were completely themselves all day – laughing, crying, soaking up every second – and that made for such honest, heartfelt images. It reminded me why I love doing this: it’s not about the venue or the weather, but the people and the emotion. When couples trust me to just capture things as they are, that’s when the magic happens.
If you’re looking for natural, honest wedding photography with a relaxed experience from start to finish, then I might just be the right fit for you. I’m not there to turn your day into a photoshoot – I’m there to quietly document it as it unfolds, capturing the real moments, the genuine emotion, and all the little things you might miss in the whirlwind. Couples often tell me how comfortable they felt with me, how I blended in like a guest, and how their photos feel like them – not forced or staged. That’s exactly what I aim for. I bring a calm presence, years of experience, and a genuine care for the people I work with. At the end of it all, you’ll have a set of images that tell your story – beautifully, honestly, and true to who you are.
