When couples ask what it’s like to have me play at their wedding, I always come back to one thing… it’s about how it *feels*. I’m not there to be the centre of attention. I’m there to create an atmosphere that feels effortless, warm, and completely personal to you. I’ve been performing for many years now, with a background in music at degree level, and I’ve had the chance to work alongside some incredible artists and contribute to TV and live events. But honestly, weddings are where it all comes together for me. Every one is different, and that’s what I love most. My approach is really simple. I take the songs you love and turn them into relaxed, acoustic arrangements that sit beautifully in the background while still feeling special. Whether it’s walking down the aisle, guests arriving, or everyone chatting over drinks, the music is there to enhance the moment, not overpower it. I’ll guide you through the musical side of the day so everything flows naturally. From helping you choose the right songs for your ceremony, to making sure there’s never an awkward silence while guests are arriving, it’s all thought through with you. One thing that means a lot to me is giving you something to keep. I create a bespoke arrangement of your aisle song and record it for you, so you’ve got that moment to listen back to long after the day itself. On the day, you don’t need to think about anything. I arrive early, set everything up, and adapt to the space, whether that’s indoors, outdoors, or somewhere in between. My setup is flexible, so I can move with the flow of your day and fit around your plans. At the heart of it, I care about creating a calm, beautiful atmosphere that feels like *you*. Something your guests will remember, without ever quite knowing why it felt so good.
That’s a lovely question… and honestly, it’s a bit of a mix of everything that’s shaped how I hear music. At the core, I’ve always been drawn to melody. Players like Tommy Emmanuel had a big impact early on, especially the way he can make one guitar sound like a full band while still keeping everything musical and expressive. There’s so much clarity and feeling in his playing, and that definitely stayed with me. I also take a lot from artists outside of guitar. People like Luther Vandross for his phrasing and emotion, or Stevie Wonder for his sense of groove and melody. Even though I’m playing instrumentally, I’m always thinking about how a vocalist would shape a line. Then there’s the songwriting side. Bands and artists like Coldplay, John Mayer, and Ed Sheeran have a huge influence on the kind of songs I end up arranging. They write melodies that translate beautifully to acoustic guitar, which is perfect for weddings. I think the biggest influence though is the setting I play in. Weddings naturally shape how I approach music. It’s not about showing off, it’s about sensitivity, timing, and knowing when to hold back. That’s probably influenced me more than anything else over the years. So it ends up being a blend of technical fingerstyle, soulful phrasing, and well-loved songs, all shaped around creating a really relaxed, emotional atmosphere.
That’s such a fun one to think about, because there are some incredible venues right on my doorstep that I’d genuinely love to be part of. These are all places that fit perfectly with the kind of relaxed, elegant atmosphere I try to create, and venues couples are actively searching for across the Midlands. I’d absolutely love to work at Hambleton Hall, it’s one of the most iconic venues in Rutland with an amazing setting overlooking the water, perfect for intimate, high-end weddings. Rutland Hall Hotel is another beautiful lakeside venue that suits outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions so well. Normanton Church is always a special one too, such a unique and romantic ceremony setting. Around Leicestershire, Kilworth House Hotel would be an amazing venue to play at, especially for larger, elegant weddings, and Shearsby Bath has that really lovely countryside feel that works beautifully with acoustic guitar. Winstanley House is another one I’d love to be part of, it’s stylish but still relaxed, which is a great combination. In Nottinghamshire, Kelham House Country Manor and Colwick Hall are both stunning venues with a lot of character, perfect for creating a really memorable atmosphere. And over in Derbyshire, places like Shottle Hall and Tissington Hall would be incredible to play at, both have that classic countryside charm that suits live acoustic music perfectly. These are the kinds of venues I’d love to add to my regular list, not just because they’re beautiful, but because they’re exactly the sort of spaces where the right music can completely elevate the feel of the day.
I’ve been lucky to play at some really beautiful venues across the Midlands, and each one brings its own atmosphere which I love shaping the music around. Venues like Barnsdale Hotel are perfect for relaxed courtyard drinks receptions, while Cleaver & Wake offers a more modern, stylish setting right by the water. I’ve also played at the stunning WildHive at Callow Hall where outdoor sets feel really special, and venues like Foxtail Barns show how well acoustic music works in a rustic barn setting. Prestwold Hall and Stubton Hall are both stunning for more classic, elegant wedding days, while The West Mill offers something a bit more industrial and modern. I also regularly work at Dodmoor House and Willow Marsh Farm which both have that relaxed countryside feel that suits acoustic guitar perfectly. In Rutland, I’ve also played at venues like Normanton Church, which is such an iconic and romantic ceremony setting right on the water, as well as The Barnsdale Lodge Hotel and Greetham Valley, both great for relaxed countryside weddings. Around Derby, I’ve worked at venues including The Kedleston Country House, which has a really elegant, intimate feel, and spaces that suit both indoor and outdoor performances beautifully. I’ve also performed at Keythorpe Manor, Keythorpe Hall and Leicester Guildhall, all of which offer something really unique, from countryside charm to historic character right in the city. Around the wider Midlands area, venues like Grange Farm Barns, Orton Hall Hotel and Holmewood Hall all offer slightly different styles, from rustic to grand, and it’s always about adapting the music to suit the space. I travel across the Midlands regularly, so even if I haven’t played your venue before, I’m very used to walking into a new space and making sure everything feels seamless and just works.
